God leads the Jews out of the land of capitivity and smote the Egyptian armies that sought the destruction of the chosen people. As the Jews were delivered from the hands of the Egyptians by passage through the Red Sea, so too are we delivered from our sins by the Christian passage through the waters of baptism. The shedding of Our Lord's blood, the red sea of Christianity, saves us from the ancient enemy of the Devil. Let us sing the praises of God, for it is in Him alone that we should trust. This hymn is also one of the traditional Jewish hymns of the Passover, and was the song sung by Our Lord and His disciples at the Last Supper.
